Stelarc.
Stelarc is an Australian performance Artist who examines the boundaries of art, technology and the body experimenting with the boundaries of his own skin and the local space that it occupies. He also investigates the experience of the remote body.
'what is being generated and experienced is not the biological other but an excessive technological other, a third other. A remote and phantom presence manifested by a logically situated body' (Stelarc)
I like that his own body is wired into the net, in the left ear on the left arm he has constructed an ear from his own living cells replicating his own ear which from surgical construction it will be placed on his forearm that transmits sounds it hears. I like this idea that we can hear whatever he is listening to all over the world. The re-implantation of a mini microphone enables wireless connection to the Internet making the ear a remote listening device for people in other places. Therefore in this piece Stelarc audience is literally anyone that has the Internet and logs onto his site. I have been reading a 'Cyborg Manifesto' by Donna Haraway a science professor who suggested in the future our bodies would no longer be human with emotion but instead in one way or another we would all have technological enhancements and apotheosis i am examining this in the core practice and materiality brief. The idea that in the future humans will be genetically engineered in labs being made and fertilized through cells and grown in chrysalis type buds.

The Leeds Art Fair the Light.
Friday 1st of May to Monday 4th of May.
"The 2009 Leeds Art Fair is celebrating 26 years of bringing the best of the regions professional artists into the public arena in the very heart of the city.
Leeds Art Fair is the original art fair in the united kingdom funded in 1982 by Rose Gillinson and Edward Davies and has been a yearly event ever since. After 25years of success with the same format the current committee of the Leeds Art Fair felt that it was time to make changes to the exhibition.
The Leeds Art Fair is there to support artists from the region acting as a showcase for both established and up and coming practitioners in and around the Leeds area. The work is for sale and the communal setting moves it easily available for those who would not normally go into a Gallery and art enthusiasts looking for art for their homes and offices. The event is held in The Light a shopping mall in the centre of Leeds and is a public prime space in which artists work is displayed, this proved to be a successful."

Morphic Resonance.
PSL and the art market.
25th may to 27th June 2009.
Afew of us went to PSL on the 8th of May to hand flyer's out for the student exhibition and we were kindly allowed to look around to see the space.
Morphic Resonance is an experimental Project for PSL by artists and artistic collaborations and collectives from across the North of England. Using PSL as a kind of art laboratory, the project explores the role of the gallery as a site for in progress work where value lies in experimentation and exchange as much as in the presentation of the final artwork it was really interesting seeing the space of the exhibition as a studio in progress for the artist
